Anyone know how to delete the file list on the drop down for Notepad - I get two different lists depending on the type of file I select in the open drop down and there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason as to which files show up - prefer to clean house from time to time - any ideas? None of the files were opened with notepad.

Thanks
Floyd

I can't help you with deleting the file list but be aware that Notepad is used by many different Microsoft products which explains the "no ryhme or reason" of the list. For example, Internet Explore uses Notepad to display the source file of a web page.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Right-click the Start button, Properties, Customize, Advanced, and Clear the most recently used file history.

bcastner,

YOu are the man! - I posted this in another forum and got 5-8 replies on how you need to go into the registry - obviously regedit happy people - I prefer to stay out except as last means. Good solution - never would have found it!

Unless you are using the 'Classic' Start menu choice, the description of using that clear button is decidedly less than clear.

For example, lets say you have a lot of old and dead Network Places entries hanging around. This will clean them. It will also clear Start, Run, historical entries and several other things.

So, every once in a while when the prompting for completion gets really annoying in various aspects of Windows, clear the entries.

I am glad it worked for you,
