I dunno... Norstar, BCM, and CS1000 are way too big for Avaya to just can them... as are the Definity, IP Office, and Partner suite. But, they will invariably have to cut something; hopefully Partner will go first.
Jpanzer, they aren't too big when Avaya's product is a direct competitor to the Nortel products. They won't want to spend all the R&D money on two product lines that tailor to the same customers, so one will go, and do you really think Avaya will get rid of its own line in favor of Nortels?
Well if they own Nortel then its their line also now so does not matter what they get rid of.
They need to keep the lower priced systems eitherway as not all can afford IP ready systems.
I doube nothing will be discontinued until newer platforms are created to replace the smaller non-IP systems like Partner, 3X8,CICS etc
It's going to be strange seeing Avaya CI cards in a CICS, but as long as they keep making parts, I'll be ok for a long time to come.
I know there's a lot of disagreement out there, but I've always found Nortel's product to be a lot more sturdy than the Partner. I just hope Avaya doesn't follow Vertical's tradition when they bought Comdial, and can the competitor product.
Nortel had a lot they could have improved on, but it is still really good equipment.
They wanted to put in a bid for the whole thing Enterprise & Wireless, but could not get it together in time. So they will just bid on them 1 at a time now.
Nortel sent us this today:
Following our announcement on June 19th that Nortel is advancing in its discussions to sell its businesses, Nortel announced it has entered into a “stalking horse” asset and share sale agreement with Avaya Inc. for its North American, Caribbean, Latin American and Asia Enterprise Solutions business, and an asset sale agreement with Avaya for the Europe, Middle Eastern and Africa portion of its Enterprise Solutions business, for US$475 million. These agreements include the planned sale of substantially all of the assets of the Enterprise Solutions business globally as well as the shares of Nortel Government Solutions Inc. and DiamondWare, Ltd.
Taking this path for our business is a positive move for Nortel Enterprise Solutions. If successfully concluded, these agreements would enable future customers to benefit from Nortel-created technology and innovation. And most importantly, it would provide clarity on the path forward. Our hope is to be in a position to close the sale by the end of the calendar year, however we are unable to provide a definitive timeframe as the process involves a number of steps, including the bidding process, obtaining government, administrator and court approvals and satisfying other conditions.
Yes curly but they wanted the whole thing, so they will also bid on the Enterprise side of the house. They have somthing like 45 days to put something together.
yeah sorry I thought the 750 Milllion was for wireless and rest of the assests not including Enterprises.
But ya 60 days to bid, only Nokia/Seimans I think would be the only major threat.
Today is the auction for the wireless with the winner being submitted the 28th to the BK Court for approval. Who do we think it will be MP, Nok, Erick, or a surprise bidder.
