I have an NT4 box running exchange 5.5. The machines used to be win98 machines running office 97, and i have never had a problem with mail delivery.

I have recently upgraded the machines to new ones running xp, and either office 97 or 2000, but a problem has arisen. It would seem mail is delayed in delivery, not so much in delivery as all mail is stored on the exchange server, but in the viewing of mail. Mail doesnt appear in your inbox until you click on something else in outlook (e.g. calendar), and then click back to inbox, at which point 10 emails could appear. Does anyone know the cause of this problem and if there is a fix for the dealy in being informed of your new mail.

Thanks.

The firewall on XP SP2 is blocking the UDP new mail notifications that the server uses to tell the client there is new mail.

To resolve the issue create an exemption for Outlook in the Windows firewall.

Cheers.

yup done that and its fine now.

Thanks again.
