Not Receiving SQL Server Job Notifications

hi everyone,

This is SQL Server 2000

i'm configuring a new server.

Outlook 2000 SP3 is installed and SQL Mail and Agent mail is set to use that account.

When a job fails, if Outlook is not open/running on the server, I do not receive the email (I'm setup as the Operator to notify).

But if Outlook is open, I receive the email.

The SMTP service is started.

What could I have overlooked that would cause Outlook to have to be open to be able to receive job alerts?

This is common when using SMTP in the profile to send email. It will work much better if you can connect up to an exchange server. This will remove the requirment of having Outlook open.

Don't have MS Exchange, not an option. Sadly, we use an ISP for email.

Ah, then you'll need to keep Outlook open on the server's console then.

Somehow I was able to configure 2 servers that can send SQL Server email without Outlook being open. I've compared the services running on them to this new server - haven't found the difference yet.

Still hoping to avoid having to keep Outlook open and make it start auto, et al.
