Have just converted my laptop over to Win XP. I use it at home and at work on the company lan. I am an active member of the domain and almost everything works properly. However I have two smaller issues, that may or may not be related.
1. When I am logged onto the network and I open Windows Explorer, I have an issue with My Network Places. It is there at the bottom of the list on the left and it shows a + to indicate that there are resources included below. If I click the + then it expands to show me the files. If, on the other hand, I double click My Network Places, the + disappears and no files are displayed. My logon script runs on boot and provides me with mapped network drives and these all seem to work. Oddly My Network Places is NOT listed in the Start Menu. I can get there By going Start / My Computer. Using the "Show Common Tasks in Folder" view, I can then see My Netword Places. However it is empty as well. This is an occasional behaviour.
2. Every now and again I will try to install a network printer to a client machine and have a sort of similar problem. I elect to install a nework printer and browse to find it. The box containing all the shared resources on the network appears and displays only the domain name. No computers or shared resources are there. I log off and back on again and most of the time the computers and resources are back. This behaviour is on all clients (9x,2K XP - NO ME allowed in my building!). The server runs 2K SBE (SP 2)through a 3Com switch.
I am thinking that it may be something to do with the Computer Browser service, but do not have the knowledge to go further than speculation. Any ideas or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
