I'm trying to sort a problem for a client. A folder on one of his pc's won't allow files to be created in one of it's sub folders. This applies to the main shared folder also.

The folder is shared out with the same name (Simple file sharing turn off) with the only user 'Everyone' with Full control, Write and Read all ticked.

When trying to creating a new folder from another machine on the network, it says that there isn't permissions to do that.

Any ideas? Any help is much appreciated.

2 places to look at for permissions, the access permissions via the share name and the security permissions on the folder itself.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean by share name and security permissions (where they are I mean)

Another point I forgot to mention is that I got the client to make a new folder and share it out in the same way. They were able to create a new word document ok in it but still not in the folder we were trying for.

Thanks again for replying.

On the PC where the folder is, right click on the folder then select Sharing and Security. Click the permissions button and check they are OK, then select the Security TAB and check those as well.

There is only one tab, it's called 'Share Permissions'. It's on XP Pro SP 2.

The Security tab is on the previous screen

By previous screen I assume you mean the folder properties. I have 4 tabs there. General, Sharing, Web Sharing and Customise. There's not a mention of security anywhere. Thanks again.

Are you in the local Admin group?

you need to apply both local permissions and share permissions....

they need access in both the security tab and the sharing tab...

814684 - You Cannot Specify a Folder Name When You Create a New Folder on a Mapped Network Drive

Is it a Group Policy thing?

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer - Remove Security Tab.

Do you have "Use simple file sharing enabled" in Folder Options\View? Make sure it is not ticked in order to see the Security Tab.

You could try Safe Mode to see the Security Tab.

Agree with linney, but the policy may not be the local policy if the pc is on a domain.
