Your asking a Norstar question, different thread. But, I know Norstar. You need go into programming under the DN of the telephone, under Line Access, Intercom, make the # whatever # you want. On a M7208 it's 0-6.

You can have intercom buttons on an Option system and there not the same as Norstar.

No the Phone system, is it a Norstar or an Option 11 or 61 or 71 or 81, if you don't know that maybe if you know What is the model number of one of your phones???

When you plug a phone into a jack connect to the system, it get everything that is programmed to that port for that type of set. You shouldn't have to programm anything to get a Intercom/DN key. An intercom key and DN Key are the same in the Norstar.
