I am a big switch CS1000+ engineer and was grabbed in a corridor to give a once over of a Norstar installed in a small office 6xKeyPhones all different types plus a couple of analogue ports ie FAX lines system hanging off RJ11 only 1xDSL POTS

Only able to use 1 Keyphone/DialTone/Line all others are dead?

With my Nortel (not Avaya) hat on and to be honest never touched one of these babies opened the cab to see Red LED indcation?, checked Amphenols down to cross/connections all OK

Whoever installed has run some 3 years ago and had bought this second hand, they said one of their fuses tripped and some guys where running in fire alarms in the office at the time, yes a bit suspicious I hear you say.

Tried the obvious power cycle/re-boot with no change I suspect a possible PSU or software loss any advise on this guys. They maywell have to call in a Local Norstar Vendor if parts required, but interested if you have anymore I can pass onto them ?

Cheers Guys !!

so you have one out of six phones working correct? did you try chging ports for any of the sets not working? did you take the working set to a none working station? troubleshoot some...

Hi Guys, to answer your questions I did check all the processes suggested, me thinks its a power issue, but at the time couldn't spend too much time on it as I had another switch/cal to attend....Par for the couse.

I'd thought to post this just for curiosity really, I visit the CS1K forum regularly but its the first visit for me on the Norstar

They called to tell me they'd got hold of a Norstar local maintainer/vendor - I have a feeling it may be the PSU thats blown after probably a surge or load problem.
I suspect this as they mentioned one of their building fuses had tripped. It looks as if the system is running on AUX power to allow 1 set/line operation..maybe?

I'll hopefully fill you in on the findings

Cheers!!

Nice one Curly, thats great for future reference
Visited that office again to see how things where again with my Nortel hat on. They'd called a local Norstar maintainer and they tell me he'd spent 3-4 hours on it and proved it to be an external cabling issue, which I did suspect first of all and to be quite honest it is a complete nightmare with junction boxes aswell, especially when they'd told me other guys had been running in alarms system.

The plan is to run in new and re-connect system to phone jack cabling and he has managed to programme and get their keyphones setup as a temporary solution

Thanks guys - I'll keep you posted

As a matter of courtesy just thought to advise
It turns out by reterminating, running fresh System to Jack cables (directly) has resolved the issue/s and the office have all KeyPhones working again.

Definitely a snip or disconnect somewhere on the original office distribution cabling, which the company need to investigate with those other contractors but their gonna have difficulty proving

very frustating....Again Nortel/Norstar wasn't to blame but at least a good tester and to meet you on this forum

Cheers for the help Guys !!
