Can we put another T-Span in our cabinet (Next to the PRI card) and use it to drive a channel bank?

The idea would be to achieve something like the functionality of 24 ATA2's, or three of the Norstar 8 Port Analog Station Module (part#s NTBB51CA or NTBB51CB).

For all of you intellectually curious types (and you know who you are), we'd in fact NOT be attaching it to a channel bank, but rather attaching it to a VIRTUAL channel bank. This would hopefully allow us a digital interface to 24 stations. If so, we will be able to create some pretty useful functinlaity. Think of an internal B2BUA.

Thanks

That's a good question...

You can provide clock over a DTI, so one would think that wouldn't be out of the question.

I've never tried it, but it's worth a shot.

I'm sure someone else here will chime in with some personal experience.

Unless I missed something in the documentation, the only things that can be programmed on DS1s connected to Norstars are PRI and 4wire E/M trunks on CAS. NO stations to my knowledge, which would follow Nortel's stupid attitude with the Meridian 1s, which can't do that either. But in the case of Meridian 1, you can have Loop-start and Ground-start at least.

Now that being said, you might be able to do some creative things with a "virtual" channel bank or one of the programmable types like the Adtran Total Access series where the channel config can be manipulated so an FXS channel unit will function with E/M signaling (the AT&T Megacom type). Just a thought...
