I recently upgraded to Office 2003 and my Normal.dot template had changed. I copied my old one back, and now when I open Word I do have my old macros, settings, etc. The problem is, when I make changes to AutoText and other things, it doesn't save properly. It seems to work throughout the day, but when I shut off my computer and turn it back on everything has dissappeared.

I should clarify, it always keeps my old Normal.dot with my old macros. Just if I add any more, at the end of the day, it wipes out whatever I've added.

I've searched around to try to find help, but I couldn't find solutions to a problem like this. Any tips?

I am not sure exactly what is happening, as I do not have 2003 (I have 2002). However, I suspect that 2003 is starting up with a different normal.dot.

Are you on a network?

My first suggestion is to no longer store your macros and AutoText in Normal.dot at all. Store them on a separate file. Call it MyStuff.Dot...or whatever you like. Transfer all your macros and AutoText to that file. Then load that file into your Word sessions.

If you want them available all the time, for all files, then load it as a global template from the Startup folder. NOT the Document &Settings/username/blah blah/Startup folder. Use the Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office10 (or 11)/Startup folder.

If you want them available just sometimes, you can load it via Tools > Templates and Addins.

fumei, I'll play around with your suggestion and see if I can fix anything. I'll let you know how it goes.
