Got a desktop station here that wont boot up. Keep getting the message "Non-system Disk or disk eror". Does anyone know what could be causing this error? I am taking over this computer after someone else tryed fixing it. They said they replaced the hard drive and it still does the same thing. Could it be a bad motherboard?

It's telling you, it can't find a drive to boot from.

Check the Bios and see if it picks up the Hard Drive.
If it doesn't then it probably means that either the drive, the ide cable, or the MB has a fault.

Replace the easy ones first, the ide cable. And check again.

Then Try another drive, and finally test the drive and the cable on another PC, to rule out problems with either.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Yes, you have to check your bios to see what the boot sequence is set at.
If its set at floppy or removable first, then the system will try and boot from the floppy.
Whatever the bios has for the first boot device, it will try.
Give us a list of what your boot devices are. Best to set first boot device to c or ide 0, depends on what bios you have and the wording.

Good advice + great people = tek-tips

check to see if the floppy ribbon cable is pluged in reversed (pin 1 not connected to pin 1 on one side) if all else fails.
