Hi all!

A non-domain user needs to access our intranet...What I have done is created a user account on our domain so that when he hits a certain part of the intranet, he will get prompted for user name/password and he can put in the domain credentials we have supplied him.

The problem is that when he gets to that part of the intranet, he automaically gets a page that says "you are not authorized to view this page" with HTTP error 401.3 near the bottom.

How do I get him to be prompted instead of just immediately denied permission? Is this an IE issue? Using IIS6.0...

Thanks in advance...This is probably an easy one to fix.

go to IIS manager website/properties/security, click on the access and authentication tab and make sure the requires windows authentication is ticked. It shouldn't be domain dependant as it will also do this over the internet.

hope this helps, it's off the top of my head so may not be completely accurate :/

Windows authentication was checked and so was the anonymous access...This website won't be accessed from the internet..Only internally.

It might be an issue with IE, but I've got another test laptop that is not a member of the domain and the same thing is happening there...Interesting enough, if I don't use a proxy in IE, the user/password screen does popup and I can log in as that user that is not a member of the domain...But the user that I'm referring to has to use a proxy to access the internet and access our intranet over an SSL gateway device.

Thanks for the response...
