Hey guys,

I have a problem with noise (it sounds like really bad static or more like white noise) on conversations on a RPE. There are three (3) Option 11-style cabinets.

The other two (2) work just fine, but #3 is being a bear. I've changed the FNET, FPEC, and both I/F cards so far, but no joy. I'm using multi-mode fibre.

It will be unbearable for about a minute, then it'll go away, but returns in about 15 seconds.

If I do an INI, it'll also work okay for a little while but soon reverts to its noisy state.

BTW, what's the difference between a NT1P63CA, and a NT1P63CAE5?

I had an issue of noise on a remote IPE shelf. Turned out to be a dirty fibre joint causing the problem.

Had the fibre link checked - it's fine.

Based on the description you gave of the symptoms, this is probably not the answer, but you might want to check your grounding. Make sure all connections are tight and there is no resistance between this cabinet ground and the other two using an ohm meter. Also make sure all power connections are tight and no burns on the pins of the plug.

The resistance between all three (3) cabinets is at zero ohms. All connections are secure and no burnt connections (or components) were observed.

Here's an added tidbit.

Only the callee hears the static, the caller hears almost no audio. Whenever the caller hears the callee, the noise is superimposed on it (or vice versa), making a conversation virtually impossible.

that's important info, so maybe the callee has problems and it's not even the PBX??

Was this working at one time and went bad, or is this new and never worked right? Either way first thing I would check is the fiber receiver card and the daughter board on the SSC. If you do not have the spares, swapping the receiver cards at off times would be a good start.

Dumb question, but have you called your cell, and physically wiggled the fiber while on a problem line, or wiggled the card? The fiber you said was checked, so connectors?

What other patterns are there? Specific phones, whole cabinet, is there other things in that cabinet, like a conference bridge, does it still do it when only one TN is active (disconnect all other phones in the cab).

phonz1: Not possible, it's a new M3904 (changed twice). All phones on this cabinet have the same noise issue. Analog or digital, it makes no difference.

trvlr1: This is a brand new ADD, and cab 3 has never worked properly. All the cards have been swapped at least twice.

Pir8Radio: No I haven't tried calling my cell. It's noisy on every single call. Incoming or outgoing, I've not tried calling off the PBX tho. I'll try that tomorrow (doubt it'll make a difference), but I'll try it anyway. :)

There are some ANA, one DLC, and one DTR.

Yes, it still sounds horrible when only one TN is active - irrespective of which line card you're on.

Update. Changed the entire module. No cigar.

Could the problem be on the PBX itself?

Is everyone as stumped as I am??

At an off time, flip your fibers on the SSC and see if the problem moves to the 2nd cabinet. This would prove if its the main cabinet or the new one. Is this really a new cabinet or a refurb? I have seen something similar many years ago after an 11 was hit by lightning, you could have inherited someone elses problems ......
