I don't get any sound anymore ,i.e if I play a CD, if I listen to audio streams on my win98 etc. As usual, this did not happen before but of lately.AFAIK no new software's been installed.
When I click the 'volume control' all checkboxes are un-marked , but the bar graph by the "wave" is greyed out(while playing CDs)

while playing audio streams, the "wave" bar graph moves up and down(suggestine Life), but no audible sounds.

Can anyone start me off with the 'troubleshootings' ?

Thx

**PS:My "DEVICE MANAGER" has "Yamaha opl3 sound system", and there's NO funky exclamation mark there.

Hi All

Firstly a heap of thanks to all who fell in to show the way out......and the article from TOSHIBA..I mean thanks for sending me the article which I should have referred to,myself in the first place ;-) before asking, but actually I was thinking more in the terms that accessing the BIOS would be a generic phase on Win...but at least I learnt it's not and it's even model specific (wow !).

Now comes the news...the issue has been resolved..and I have sound back in my laptop.Ummmmm....don't know (Jeez) how exactly this happened, but 'something' must have happened when I was trying out all the suggestions once again on my laptop.Believe me , it wasn't the volume button or a 'muted' checkbox. I'm baffeled..but I hit something unknowingly during all the analysis that triggered 'something' and next time I rebooted my machine (not even knowing that I had done it) , my machine beeped, [ it normally does] when it locates the Wireless adaptor and from that moment I knew , we were back on line. What really happened here , I can't explain...windows

Crux, it was still everyone out-there who resolved this issue and I think it's about time I start with my 'donation' to this forum.

Thx all

BTW ...one last thing...I did search all the previous threads for a similiar issue on this forum, and I did find one, exactly the same. that thread closed without any solid reasons too...I guess that user went too through the same 'baffle' way..??
Just in case anyone's interested, it was :-
"Win98 - no audio - device manager OK"
thread615-585740

bye
