Can anybody suggest a reason for a CD drive apparently playing a CD but no sound. I have removed and reinstalled the sound card and other sounds on the computer are fine. I have used the CD to install software so the CD drive is fine. When tinkering with the problem I got one burst of sound that lasted a couple of seconds and then no more. Does it sound like a loose connection? Anything else? Many thanks for any help.

No sound from CD

Look inside your computer and make sure the audio cable going from your CDROM to your soundcard isn't loose.

The audio cables used often have "Generic" as opposed to "Specific" connectors, on the side that connects to the sound card...additionally, some sound cards provide for multiple connections, such as "Line 1", "Line 2", and so on. The sound card should have a connector specifically for the CD-ROM input, and the connector type should match really well, if not, you may have to get a different cable that has a "well-matched" connector for the "socket" on the sound card.
Less frequently, the CD-ROM Drive may be the problem, having an "Older" style connector for the audio output. Ensure that the connector types match, on both sides of the audio connection!
