Hello,

No mouse is detected on a hp machine running 95
no matter what mouse i change ...no pnp .
i have forced the add hardware and added driver.
mouse cursor appears
no mouse movement happens.
i hope i don't have replace the hadware for that mouse interface.

seems strange to me.

ptt :)

Are you by any chance using an adapter, or are you plugging direct into the system?
If direct, sounds like you are looking at a port replacement.
Good luck! Kimber

I would try loading a mouse driver from DOS. pretty near any one would do, unless it's a fancy one. if you have mouse in dos after the driver is set up, that would prove your hardware.

Hi,
Check your system.ini file;
(from W98 machine);

[BOOT]
mouse.drv=mouse.drv

[boot.description]
mouse.drv=Standard mouse

[386Enh]
mouse=*vmouse, msmouse.vxd

If it helps let me know - If it doesn't help let me know.

Regards.

Regards.

Also, are you turning off the computer to swap mouses around, or leaving it up? Sounds like you need a new mouse plug-in-spot (it's early, sorry), especially if all those mice work on other computers.

Great plan to check the mouse in dos...
I concur.

Good luck! Kimber

Hello,

Thank you for your input.:)
I first tried loading a mouse driver in DOS ( a while back when I first saw the computer). Meaning specifically I ran the mouse .exe driver while in DOS. I had found a disk for 95 that said DOS driver for mouse. I didn't see any mouse. I have never seen anyone set up a mouse in dos and I wasn't really sure how it was suppose to work.

I had also repaired the machine to get it to boot windows and I even loaded a specific mouse driver exe in windows and that blew up the machine. When it booted up for windows it would kill power itself. So I fixed that and got rid of that driver.

But I like the more specific directions left for the .ini file left by WinUser98. But I don't understand why you referenced your win98 file instead of 95 unless it's because that is all you have to look at. So are you sure that syntax is good for 95. ???

hope so. cuz i need 95 direction not 98 for this.

thanks again.

It's hard to edit the system.ini file cuz there isn't one. File not found.

should i create it and put just the mouse syntax in?

i put the ini file in and it wouldn't boot to windows.

i took out the system ini and it asked for a mouse driver.

i reloaded a dosmouse driver and my screens read the following:

mouse driver ver 6.3

invalid parameter

type mouse /? for help (that doesn't work)
analog devices AD1815 initialization program

Willow Pond corp

ad1816 correctly configured

LTTST.EXE PnP 16550 enabled apr 1997

modem com port=0002
irq=4

***UAART not initialized
check irq setting
tried irq 0004

microsoft win 95
C:\windows

either i got a bad driver
a bad connection to mb
or
mayber something with the dosstart.bat thing???

hhmmmmmmmmm

looks like I burned everyone out on this one :(

i found a system.ini under windows directory

boot
mouse.drv=lmouse.drv

386Enh
mouse=*vmouse (nothing after that)

ASSUMING AV testing, defrag, scandisk, etc. have already been applied:

GOTO CMOS and make sure you have a serial port enabled, if not, enable one. Remove and reinstall the mouse driver for DOS

The new Dos mouse driver is likely loading out of C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT or is a .sys DEVICE in CONFIG.SYS. Note the driver location path, REM the driver out, boot to clean dos, find and run the mouse's executable. you should see the driver load. If it errors out you have a problem in low memory or a hardware problem. If it loads properly, run a "mouse ready" DOS program (EDIT, or Norton's NDD if available, etc)to prove functionality. If the mouse works fine in DOS the hardware is good.

What ver of 95?

Hi,
Yes, at the moment I haven't got a Win95 box to look at.

And yes, the syntax is good for both.

The mouse driver lmouse.drv should be on your system probably be in the Windows/System directory(if it isn't a typo :) ). Please ensure that it is there. Also, have a look for the file mouse.drv

If mouse.drv is there, change the system.ini entry to mouse.drv=mouse.drv

If it doesn't work just change it back to how it was.

Regards.

Hi,

Ookay.
I'll tell ya what I did.

My instincts told me that it wasn't hw because it seems their were errors in several boot files that config the mouse set up.

I couldn't seem to get the system config files to do their thing and I had another real emergency happen to my main system. Sooo...I needed a working pc right away asap. So I fdisked the dog gone thing. Created new partition; format c: /s installed win 98 se and bingo wallah....mouse good.

that's a bit drastic .....I know....especially for a mouse problem. I've never fdisked anything before. But....gotta do whatch gotta do. :)

Might try looking for a serial mouse if the PS2 mouse port is not working. Might have to really look for them. Another issue could be an IRQ conflict. Someone probably has some older serial mouse products for sale. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

Hi,

Thanks everyone for helping and all your knowledge.

Thanks for the directions to look in and especially the details on the CMOS and conflicts.

Very Good.

All is good again :)
