Hey -

I want to set my view source editor for IE7 to notepad++.

there are plenty of tips on the web that suggest updating registry keys to do this.

I set the new key at to point to notepad++ in:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\View Source Editor\Editor Name

since then I have rebooted, but the computer sill opens notepad when I hit view source. any ideas or alternate methods?

Copy the following into a text file, modifying the path to the executable if needed, and save it as View_Source_Editor.reg. Right-click the file and merge.

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\View Source Editor]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\View Source Editor\Editor Name]
@=”\”C:\\Program Files\\Notepad++\\notepad++.exe\”"

This mentions the use of double slashes to get correct path addresses.

"Anyway just creating the keys View Source Editor/Editor Name in
the HKLM/Microsoft/Internet Explorer and modifying the data to be
C:\Program Files\Notepad++\Notepad++.exe gave me back my view source
editor."

Have problem with IE6 and showing of .html pages

guys -

I failed to mention in my original post that I already attempted to do what illogicallylogical suggested. I have set this registry key before on another pc and it worked.

the offending machine is a vista x64 laptop. could the 64-bit piece be the problem?

thx

found it on another thread:
for vista x64 this is the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\View Source Editor\Editor Name

Glad you found a fix for 64-bit Windows Vista. Thanks for posting back with the solution!
