No external display on Dell C400 laptop!!!!

I have the above laptop connected through a docking station and I have a problem with the external display.

Display is ok on the laptop but as sson as I connect to a CRT the CRT is black. I press fn+f8 and it is ok. But when the laptop is restarted it doesnt remember this setting. This used to work fine but he had a problem and I had to re-image his laptop and now I have this problem.

He has a monitor stand as well that makes it difficult to lift the lid and press the fn+f8 everyday.

Any ideas

A docking station and monitor stand with no external keyboard?

For your monitor fix, enter the BIOS - F2, is it? Check whether there is an option to boot to external monitor when connected to a dock.

Forgot to say he has got an external keyboard as well.

Nice shout about the BIOS, I will give that a bash.
