I have a machine running win 98, outlook express 6.0
And have mcafee anti virus. The problem is when new
e-mails come in they are not listed in the inbox, the inbox
is completely empty. I tried the find button and it shows
no emails. But If I go to another machine in the house
the are in the inbox (not networked). Nothing new
has been done to the machine.

Thanks, eap

Does each pc use the same email addy? My Dad used to have his old work laptop hooked up here and it was using the same email addy as the desktop is. If I opened the laptop and downloaded new emails they would of course download to the laptop. If I then turned on the desktop and opened Outlook there wouldn't be any new emails to download because I just downloded them all to the laptop. Once their downloaded from the server from one computer those same emails can't be downloded again from another computer because they're no longer on the server.

I do understand all that
I think my inbox is fried. I did a find files search
inbox.* and all I had in there is 1 .dbx file.
I think OE 6.0 is .dbx insted of .mbx for OE 5.0
I am going to download a recovery software and see
if that works.

You should only find 1 inbox.dbx file whether it's OE 5 or 6. They both use .dbx files. OE 4 used .mbx files.

Check your pop3 address. pop3.mailserver.com
When you install norton anti-virus depending how you configure it, it will change your pop3 address. It does this to check incoming e-mails for viruses. Go to tools on the menu bar then accounts. Click on the mail tab, select your e-mail account (double click it or click on properties). then click on the servers tab. There you can check your settings. If you are not sure what they are contact your isp or vist their web site.

Ok, I have tried all of your suggestions and thank
you. However no luck, I have tried the repair and I
also uninstalled to lesser IE then upgraded to 6.0
It did not work in all areas. Any Ideas?
Thanks

Make certain the other system that downloads for that email address is turned off (or unplugged or shot).

Send yourself an email from the suspect system and tell us if it comes through. CC: it to a friend so you may be certain that it went out.

Then tell us where the email was received.
