I've got a client using IE 6 and she doesn't have any choices available to her in IE for email client. (Tools -> Options -> Programs tab -> E-mail) Literally, when she clicks on the drop-down arrow, there aren't any options there. And yes, she's got Outlook Express and Lotus Notes currently installed. So why would no choices appear? This has got me baffled...

HI I've got the same problem to I'm on a mac using I.E. 5 and I can't link or send emails to anyone either through I. E.

Just wanted to get this back at the top

Ok, I'm assuming that there IS an email client installed on the machine (Eudora, Outlook, whatever...), as IE doesn't have one in and of itself. If there is an email prog on the machine, it appears that IE isn't recognizing it. Have you tried reinstalling IE on the machine(s) in question?

Carrr, yes, I have. If you read my post fully, you would have seen that Lotus Notes is already installed, along with Outlook Express, by OS default. Anyway, the problem started with IE 5, and I posted my question here after I updated her Internet Explorer to 6.

So no, updating IE didn't help whatsoever. I imagine this might be a registry issue of some sort. Nonetheless, I'm still open for ideas.

lwinstead.
You're not the only posting in this thread. My post was for both of your benefit, thanks...

What do you get if you go into Control Panel and double-click the Mail icon?

What if you double-click the Control Panel Internet Options and try setting it from there?

Carrr,
I'm sorry; I suppose I should have been paying better attention myself!

jpm121, There is no "Mail" icon in the control panel. This is Win2k, which I should have pointed out right away. My bad. Secondly, the Internet Options control panel icon IS the same thing you access in Internet Explorer. In other words, the same thing is seen at either place.

lwinstead, try this:

Start, Run, "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE" /REG

Put all the bold text into the run box - including the quotation marks.

No sweat, lwinstead.
This can be done with a registry hack. It goes as follows:
[from Microsoft KB article # 154359]

By changing the values that are stored in the registry for extended services such as mail and news, it is possible for Internet Explorer to start programs that provide specialized Internet services. By appending new key definitions to the end of the registry path, it is possible to add other programs to the menu items that are available within Internet Explorer.

For example, to include a mail client program in the list of available programs, register your client programs in the following registry key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Your_Mail_Client_Name

Define the client and the path to the program to be started by Internet Explorer:
Key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Your_Mail_Client_Name\shell\open\command

Value: "C:\Program Files\Your Folder Name\YOUR_MAIL_CLIENT_NAME.EXE"

For starters, on my machine under Mail, I've got a Lotus Notes key, with the following Name and Data in the left pane: DLLPath "C:\Lotus\Notes\nmailman.dll"

...just to give an idea of how it might look. Should be close, but the path on your machine may vary. Good luck...

Carrr,

Damn, I KNEW it was a set of registry values. I just forgot where and what. Anyway, I just exported what was on my machine and merged it into her registry and everything's peachy now! Thanks a ton.

DON'T S'PPOSE THIS COULD BE THE SAME PROB THAT I'M HAVING COULD IT?
I want to send newsletters that look like a web page via email and I was told you could do this by going to file - send - page as email, but IE 5 on a mac doesn't have this option any ideas?

Thanks for any help, I'm pulling my hair out here.

I'm looking around, but I'm really out of my element when it comes ot a Mac...I'll post with anything that looks like it might help...

Loopsta,

I understand what you're trying to do, but have you checked if this is a legit option in IE for the Mac? If so, and the option is greyed out, then its another matter. But if you don't even have the option anywhere in IE, it might be the case that its not possible. You'll have to check the version of IE that you're using and whether or not it'll support that given function.

I'm familiar with Macs, but I can't recall anything about IE on a Mac specifically.

Thanks for your help, yeah the option isn't even there, do u know anywhere I could go to on the web that mite help out in any way? Its a really big problem as I have a client who wants me to do an image rich newsletter and I can't even mail it to here!
