No DTMF tones on AutoDial key

I just started using the PCA application on our 81C. Since the dialing string is so long to activate/deactivate, I programmed the activation/deactivation strings on AutoDial keys on my 3904. When I go off-hook and press those keys, nothing happens. I can see the dialing string on my display but I can not hear DTMF tones, which seems to be the problem. I can dial each of the strings manually and it works fine. Can I activate DTMF tones on the AutoDial keys? Any other ideas?

I just tried it again and waited (patiently??) and nothing happened. It did not give me a confirmation tone, so I dialed the PCA Verification code to see if it had activated, but no luck. Any other ideas that might work?? I'm getting harrassed, I mean asked, about getting this feature added to about 25 phones but I know they will balk at having to dial 12/13 digits to deactivate/activate the feature.

could be because it's not a number, but a feature code, it will not work from speed dial, is the number is entered withoput dialtone, the spd dial does not work
