I have a user phone 3903, it is a new phone and this has happened to the user second time in 2 weeks...

When you pickup the handset there is no dialtone, however when you go to the speaker phone (handsfree) you can hear dialtone.

Also the user can not hear the other party through the headset but can hear through the speaker (handsfree)

Any ideas??

Thanks

Check to make sure headset and handset are correctly installed. If they are remove the headset and see if the hanset works by itself. Is there any type of interface box for the headset/Handset??

could be as simple as a bad set, i've had new sets that did that. check the firmware and maybe trade that set with another to start to isolate the problem.. you can get a dialtone delay on a switch with light grading, but it would not be a single set

try swapping the handset and curly cord with another set, i think you'll find the problem there

Replace it w/ another phone in the office to see if it works and you will know for sure if it is the headset giving you the problems.

You might also want to check the switchhook button. I had a 3903 doing exactly this - it worked fine using handsfree but intermittent on the handset. Pressing the switchhook a couple times got a dialtone. Very fine sandpaper and contact cleaner were the fix.
