Hey guys,
powered on PC last night, gets to the Windows XP loading screen and then re boots..and then does the same thing again! Its Win XP SP2, no MS updates were installed prior to problem.

It wont boot in safe mode or command prompt.

Windows repair it laughs at...

Any ideas? created a new boot sector to no avail.

thanks for your suggestions

It could be a heat problem.
Check if the cpu fan is running.
Check your cpu temp in the Bios.
Also check your throttle down temp in the Bios. I've run into machines where that was set to low and the computer constantly rebooted.

Hey thanks for your reply. yep all working, checked that last night, should have said. no heat probs fan running. no strange noises echoing either :)

Perhaps something in this thread will help.

Did you test the memory? That was the problem in my case.

Cheers.

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console for Windows XP (Q307654)

Try running ChkDsk /r on the drive.

An easy to follow recovery console description when unable to start computer due to corrupt registry.

This is a layman's version of Q307545 in simple language.

If you have SP2, there is an option on the Safe Mode Options Screen to not automatically restart but stop and display the full error message. Did you ever try the "Last known good configuration" option too?
