when i type in ipconfig on the 2000 server, i get this message
steps done:
i reinstalled all adapters & then dhcp/dns,etc., still doesnt work. i put a static ip address in, and still doesn't work.
i cant seem to move forward with dns as the server wont ping (recognize) its own static ip address.

note:i typed in 127.0.0.1 and get a response however.
thanks.

Thank you.

You can check the DHCP Bindings by going into the properties of DCHP in the MMC, Advanced Tab, Bindings button.

Make sure the checkmark is in the STATIC IP address that your clients are trying to reach.

Your DCHP server needs a static IP.

"In space, nobody can hear you click..."

thanks, I will try that today and will let you know.

Thank you.

i tried reinstalling everything, including network adapter.
it says "network cable unplugged" and the same message, and I think maybe the nic card is not compatible with dhcp server? (eg. Cnet Pro 10/100)

Thank you.

You can't do anything if your network is disabled because of the error "network cable unplugged" (no signal coming from your LAN cable). No network means, you can't ping, bind, etc. You solved your problem first by making sure NIC, LAN cable, network point, HUB/swithces are working properly.

127.0.0.1 is a loopback test(TCP/IP stack is OK). It also means your NIC is working properly but still the problem is no signal coming from outside.

I'm sorry, I'm just learning all this stuff. this server is not connected to any network as of yet. it's a standalone 2000 server. i tried 127.0.0.1, and it does ping. how do i make this server have a static IP? as i've tried reinstalling everything twice. and still same messages.
no adapters bound to tcp/ip on dhcp
and network cable unplugged on the NIC (local area connection link).
Thank you...

Thank you.

Hi, THANKS!! i used the loopback adapter and it works.
But I would like to use a NIC card if possible, so I can try other NIC cards we have and see if this works.

However, if I use the loopback adapter, can I still connect it as normal to a workstation?

Thank you.

That's what I'm trying to tell you, if you want to use the NIC connect it to a switch/HUB otherwise it will not work. The loopback adapter is for testing only when you have no NIC and a Switch(HUB).
