I'm setting up a Solaris 8 server as an NIS Master but have the following error that perists even when I delete the "made" map files and re make the maps.

-part of the output of ypwhich -m
mail.aliases ????????
ypwhich: Can't find the master of mail.aliases. Reason: yp map data base is bad.

The mail.aliases map can be ypcat'd even though this error exists.

Has anyone seen this error and does anyone have any tips for me.

Thanks

I wouldn't do any deletes of the NIS maps. If you want to update any NIS map, Run command touch on the file in /etc. Example: touch /etc/hosts.. This will change the time stamp and make will recreate the maps.

I've been making modifications to the source files and the makes work ok. What I'm deleting is the maps generated by make. Then I'm remaking from the same source files.

Was just a suggestion Mantab... I understand what you are deleting, I am just not sure it a good idea to delete them.
