NIM problem with private network

Hi all,

I've got a 5.2 NIM-server with an interface to a public network and an interface to a private network. We use the private network (192.168.x.x) for backups of some of the hosts and I would like to use this network for the NIM-environment too.

I have configured the NIM-server to use the interface on the public network as primary interface and defined the public network on the second interface. I've created a default route between the networks.

I just can't get client machines defined on the NIM-server, neither from the master or the client machine.

Here's an example from the client:

0042-008 NIMkid: Request denied -
The specified NIM master is not currently configured to
define machines on your subnet. The machine must be defined
from the master OR a network corresponding to your subnet must
be defined on the master before you can add yourself as a client
to this NIM environment.

Can anybody help me??
Thanks!

we have a similar setup, however we were not able to get any satisfaction from IBM as far as using the private routes. i believe that NIM does not like having multiple interfaces defined, however i would suggest calling IBM as something may have been patched in the past year or two. our workaround was to simply have the private net as the only net defined to our NIM master.

Thanks Yegolev, I'll contact IBM and see what they can do. If there are any new developments, I'll let you know.

Hi,
check the cpuid definitions on the NIM server (master):
nimserver:
smit nim
Perform NIM Administration Tasks
Manage Machines
Change/Show Characteristics of a Machine
<select the nimclient>
The CPU Id attribute should reflect the uname -m of the client, if not then fix it

Check if the NIM client really works:
nimclient:
smit nim
Manage Network Install Resource Allocation
List Allocated Network Install Resources

There are other ways to fix this, but this is what I got first.
