I'm trying to connect to my Linux box via NFS with my Win98 PC. I've checked all the processes and config files and all howto checks seem to be ok. I can mount the NFS filesystem locally on the Linux box. I've tried 4 different Win98 NFS clients and they all report the same error 'NIS Login Failed'

Anybody got any ideas?

Try adding this line to /etc/exports

/mount/point xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa(rw,no_root_squash)

Now, this is _VERY_ unsecure, but if this is a home network there is no need to worry about it.

To be honest if I were you I wouldn't use NFS to connect to Linux from a Win98 station I would use Samba. Much easier to setup, much nicer when it comes to file permissions and it's free. You can also get samba binaries for other UN*X OSs if you need them.

If you need to connect to Win98 from Linux use smbmount.

Samba can be found at
ftp://ftp.samba.org/pub/samba/samba-2.0.7.tar.gz
Smbmount can be found at ftp://ftp.samba.org/pub/samba/contributed/smbfs-2.02.tgz

Good luck

-cm
