Hi All!

I got given a 3640 router and I'm thinking of refurbrishing it. Its casing is all bent, scratched and it has no modules in the back and no PCMCIA Flash Card.

When i connect it using the console cable to my computer and turn it on, hyper terminal does not show anything (Hyper Terminal configuration is default i.e. 9600, 8 bits, ... on COM 1). After powering up the router, its Sys, 0 Active and 0 Ready LEDs flash and then stay on.

Do i need to get a Flash card and load IOS on it for the router to boot up and show up in the Hyper terminal?

Is it worth refurbrishing it at all and getting Flash card, FE and WIC1-ADSL modules? Can it be worth a lot?

Thanks

First get the router to show some type of indication on Hyperterm.. Would with ram and just try and get some indication it is running the post before investing in modules etc.

Thanks for your reply. I managed to get router on Hyper Term. Here is what it looks like:

Do you think its worth investing into it?
Also, do u know where i can get accessories/parts for cisco routers?

Looks like it is loading up alright just a matter of what cards you want to buy and install , this is really a still fairly new model router so I'm not sure how much the cards will cost .

This is not a new chassis, the 3640 has been around for along time.. Its still a great box, but its EOL'ed.. So if you're looking to refurb it then make money off it, don't expect much..

3640 is a great lab box though...
