This is our first SQL Server based app, written in VB6. Our client is a govt agency and purchased SQL Server7 w/10 client licences, but no documentation whatsoever came with it.

I installed SQL Server on their server. I want to have one of the clients be able to run Query Analyzer and Enterprise Manager from his computer. The other clients will just run the app from their computers, but will not be able to run either of the 2 programs mentioned. The only CD that came in the pkg is the SQL Server 7 Install CD. Questions:

How do I do this? What files have to be placed on the one user's machine vs what has to be installed on the others?

Does the one user use the username and password established when SQL Server was installed?

Any other ideas to help me?

Thanks to you all for any help you can give me.

Jeff

1) All SQL documentation is electronic - SQL Books Online. It can be loaded from the CD or downloaded from Microsoft.

2) Use the SQL Server Install CD to install the client tools on the one user PC that will be using EM and QA.

3) The other users will only need the MDAC components. These are also available on the Cd or from Microsoft's website. Terry L. Broadbent

Thanks, Terry. Are the Client Tools located on the CD?

Jeff

Yes, the client tools are on the CD. Run the setup program. You can install client tools only from the setup. Terry L. Broadbent

I know I'm being a pain, Tery, but I remember only seeing a couple of choices on the install menu, none of which relate to Client Tools (Standard Version, Desktop Version, Prerequisites). Unfortunately, the CD is at the office.

Jeff

When you install the Standard version on a workstation, setup will only install the Client tools. Terry L. Broadbent
