I have tried using the description in the SharePoint documentation, but I see no link to any kind of function that will allow me to delete a shared document once it has been posted!!
Thanks!
If you have enough rights, you just have to go into the shared documents library and then when moving the mousepointer over the document you will be able to chose from a "drop-down" list and chose delete.
If you have the Shared Documents visible on the "main-page" you can't delete it from there, you will have to click on the Shared Documents link and remove it from there.
If you are the administrator you should be able to remove the document. So if you click on Shared Documents on the left pane and it loads the shared documents page on the "main" page, and you point your mouse on the document under the column "name" it should markup the document name and you should se a little arrow to the right, clicking it should give you a dropdown list(click just outside the name of the document, otherwise it will try and open it) with some options and one of them should be Delete. Just make sure that you are not trying to do it from the Webpart on the mainpage, you have to do inside the Shared Document list.
If you still are not able to do that, check your userrights settings to really verify that you are an administrator.
It is possible that the Name column of your Document Library is not linked to an "edit menu" so you do not see the drop down.
Go to the Document Library. On the left hand navigation bar you will see the option "Modify columns and settings". Click on it.
Go down to the bottom of the page and see which view is checked as the "default view". Click on the name of the view, i.e. click on "All Documents".
In the "Columns" section there is a list of potential columns with the ones displayed checked. You might have a column checked called "Name (linked to document)" then that is your problem. You want "Name (link to document with edit menu)" or "Name (link to edit)".
If this is not the case, then I'm not sure why you are not getting a drop down menu when you mouseover one of the document names.
Thanks for your ideas. I still can't see the edit menu on the Shared Document List. I am definitely an Administrator, and I checked to make sure the column is linked to the Edit menu.
Aargh!
Any other ideas??
Thanks for your help!
OK, I just realized if I click on the Edit icon, it takes me to a separate page with a delete option. I never did see the mouseover, but at least I can delete the document!

One more question - what version of Microsoft Office and browser are you using? If it's Office 2000 (or lower) or IE 5.0 (or lower) that could be the problem.
