I'm a brand new windows user. I'm not giving up my PowerBook, I just finally ran into something I couldn't do on a Mac...MS Access. So I have a ThinkPad A30 i found used from a refurbished place, geeks.com. It came with what appears to be a generic install of Win2K, and it only displays 640x480 16 colors. Not so good.
I've downloaded drivers from ATI, IBM, and MS, to no avail. IBM's site has an automated download deal that returned an "invalid machine type" error. I've literally tried 5 different drivers that claim to work for an ATI Radeon/FireGL M6 (or combinations thereof), also to no avail.
My questions:
1) is installing all these drivers bad for the machine?

2) is there a way to fix it?

and 3) should I just shell out for XP?

Thanks in advance.

Yes their is a way to fix your problem. Try running Windows Update. You should do this any way. If microsoft knows of a driver for any of your hardware. It will download it and install it.

No installing drivers for hardware that is not on your system will not hard the system as a hole. It make cause some of your hard ware not to work proberly or not at all. As soon as the correct driver is installed it will be fine.

Honestly, I would get XP Home at least. More than likely it will have the driver that you nee.
