We have a new employee. Set up a new box, XP Pro, Outlok 2003. Assigned password, etc.. in Exchange Advanced tab HIDE from GAL is not checked. That was Monday. It has never taken this long to show up. His PC shows his name in the GAL, but does not show on anyone else's PC. He gets/sends mail fine.We can type his address in TO: and off it goes, but still not in GAL.

Any ideas?

THANX

Is the Outlook client in "Cached Exchange Mode"? That would keep the GAL from updating for a while.

Open up system manager - right click your exchange server and click properties. Go to the Diognostic logging tab amd highlight MSExchangeAL. Set address list syncrozine to MAX. Then highlight MSExchangeMS and set Proxy Generation to MAX.
That may update the server and push it to the GAL. But then again,, maybe not..

I agree with JAC5528. If you clients are using Outlook 2003 the default setup is "cahced mode."

I suggest cached mode only for clients that work offline, laptop users mostly.

There are two address lists:
1. Default Global Address List - used by clients not in cached mode.
2. offline Address Lists -> default Offline Address List - used by clients configured in cached mode.

Usually the offline address list is configured to Update once every 24 hours, though it can be customized.
If you need to Update on demand:
Right-Click the Default Offline Address List and choose Rebuild.
If you want to configure Update Interval, choose propties.
