New to phone systems (GDK-16E) 3

Hello, Could anyone please help as i am at a loss of where to start with this. I am trying to install a GDK-16e in an office for a small charity. we have the unit and 6 phones. I have looked at various instruction manuals but not much help. Could anyone give me some guidence on how to wire all this together?

you need the gdk 16 programming manual , it is all done through flex buttons . you need an LKD30 button phone or gdk admin pc tool , enter programming by pressing trans/pgm *# default password is 147*, the 30 button phone needs to be connected to the first DKT1 port on the back plane of the system top right blue connection block, if you cant find a manual on line i can try and upload one to media fire , but if you have no experience programming this type of system , contact me at q u a k e r 2 1 @ h o t m a i l .c o . u k and we can sort out remote acccess or something along those linesa

be responsible docktor , the industry needs trained techs and paying customers ...so much advice is ok but we will all be out of work if you go too far..your call though.

Thank you for the information so far, but firstly I am English. and montyzummer payment is not a problem, no offence taken! I have only got as far as fixing to wall, could you let me know where the external phone lines get connected and the internal phones? This should set me on the path of success. Thanks in advance. as already stated some phones go onto the back plane then on cards , in the system if you have the manual that doctor gave you the link to it tells you in there try reading it!!!

Use the "screw" terminals on the LCOB boards listed as L1, L2 etc.

I love to help but dont like people who dont know what they are doing trying to bodge things, did you recommend the guy wear an anti static stap before he touched the card ..no

did you tell him to earth the system ...no , both basic issues that should happen before you even touch a card or the system....do you see my point docktor??

You think you are helping but by providing half the story to somebody that is not trained you are causing him issues if the kit fails are you going to go and fix it??

Also i think it is not responsible or professional trying to "help" somebody that can cause them selves and the system damage,,,what happens if he plugs it in and accidently touches the power grid block that is not obvious to a non trained tech???..you are obviously a guy who knows the LG equipment to the letter but in my opinion you are making yourself look unproffessional.And too eager to offer advice without considering the consequence.

I get your point. Anyway - any tech minded person can read an LG manual and get the basics to work. In this forum groundings of system has been discussed so has warnings about pulling card out of LG PBX that is powered on.
Also warnings about swapping off the battery back-up of an LG system -> to avoid the database being restored to factory defaults.
So we have been getting a lot around with LG so as with other PBX types in the other forums.
There is obviously some interest for the issues discussed, and I never think that the professionals will loose from this. They will just the hard issues - demanding escalation of software issues to LG in Seoul in Korea.
I see these forums as point-of-interest more than something to fear for us professionals.

no you miss my point this gut knows nothing of the product and will not of read every post if any before ..so will not know any basics like earth strap etc. that is my point

you are right forums like this help the pros , but partial advice to a self confessed novice can cause massive problems, i doubt this guy will ever need to escalate to korea as the gdk is an unsupported product.

Im not looking for an argument just trying to point out that advice to untrained members of the forum who dont know a gdk16 from a ipecs , should not given advice like you have.

Just to let you know I am a qualified aerospace engineer, and have been dealing with flight systems, ground computers and networks for over 20 years. but as i said in my origenal post, I am new to telephone systems. I i wanted was a point in the right direction, a helping hand if you will. PP

but I don't seem to be able to find it on the web, could you help? PP

pitprop maybe you vcan make it fly the admin tool is avaiable via capstan communications you will have to call them and ask if they will give you access to it, if not i doubt you will find it on open access forums.

I think you might want to make sure the battery is ok on it first or the first time you get a power cut the system it will default back to Korea and u will loss all you programing,good luck on getting the GDK admin working on a gdk16, work on gdk for along time and it never worked for me all ways easy to program using the main handset

@ Randall. There is nothing like the good old keyset programming!
Fast and "easy", but you can program a whole GDK-16 in a "few" minutes... One of our female engineers had a record og 8 minutes for 4 extensions with DDI numbers, voice mail, 2 groups and attendant!
It was merely not possible to start-up your computer, before she finished programming.
