I've got a cannon gl1, (nice camera). I am looking to do my own edit. I'm going with Adobe Premier as my software.(industry standard) I'm looking for some answers though on hardware. I've only got the monitor & printer. Looking for something that is user friendly, & fast. I'm a documentary style camera op. and shoot hours of footage for minimal usage. Any suggestions as to an IBM campatable system, and other hardware. (i.e. capture, and how large to go with memory). Thanks for your time
jec.

With all the info flying around and all those dizzying prices, I think I'll get the ati card, type my movies to vcr, then direct the vcr input to the ati card. That will be good enough till I win the lotery ;)

Regards
fenris
fenris@hotmail.com

Al,
Do you like your dc30-plus? I want to go with the miro DV 300, but its a little rich right now. ($600+) Ive just bought a 700 mhz 198?mb 45g expandable hard drive machine. The dc30 is do-able if i push my budget a little. Are you happy with the product? (dc30) I make my living with a camera, but I can make it better if I do my own edit.
Dutch

I bought the card to get my feet wet with video editing. It came with a full version of Premiere and was fairly easy to set up. One thing to watch is that the PC's video needs to support something (can't remember what, sorry) in order to view the footage as it is being copied to the drive. I had a Matrox Millenium and it did NOT support this feature.
The card seemed to have many proff. capabilities that were well beyond my needs. Pinnacle (Miro) has been in this business for a long time and always received accolades for its products.
By the way, I didn't know the Dc 30 was still available. I paid over $700 for my card when it was new!
Best of luck.
Al
atc-computing@home.com

I'm useing the ati all inwonder 128 pci card. in a penn II 350 mghz computer, 128 meg ram, 30 gb maxtor hard drive, as primary drive and a 6.2 hard drive as a slave. also a hp 9001i cdrw, so I want to make video cd's. every time I make a file and go to create the cd, a message comes up that the file willnot play as a video cd and that i need a mpeg encoder. well i have used every style of format that i have. mpeg 1-2, indego raw, mpeg raw and some others. so any ideas how to make it work? software i have are mgi video 2, adaptec's easy cd creator 4 deluxe and ati video editor.

have you tried Xing Mpeg Encoder, it encodes Mpeg1 and 2, but it has a special section for encoding a VCD file.
