Heres my problem, Ive got Windows 2000 Advanced Server from a friend who bought it for a course he was taking. Since he passed the class he doesnt need it so he gave it to me(woohoo!) and my primary experiance is with unix/linux based servers/workstation's but i am really dying to learn how to run a win2k domain. So i have it installed, ran dcpromo, and now my system is a domain controller. There are a few client machines, all of which see the new domain and are able to login to it. My problem is that I dont know anything, like how to have users be able to login to any workstation and have any apps that may have been in use or installed on the other workstation install and load on the new workstation. I would also like to be able to have users login and install any applications they may need. How would i go about this? I've been playing with a trial version of ScriptLogic which looks nice enough but i have yet to make it bear any fruit. I would also like to be able to have the workstation check the files it has locally with one that may be on a share drive on the network and update them as neccisary. Also, I was able to locate in the user profile for AD where i can specify a logon script, problem is it didnt run. When it asks for a path, would it be better to specify a path on a network drive or one on the local machine or what. Like i said i need alot of help. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Open Active Directory Users and Computers (in Administrative Tools), right-click on your domain, select properties, click on Group Policy tab. Your group policy should be highlighted, if not click on it. Click on edit. From here you should be able to accomplich much of what you are asking. There are settings for both the machine and the users and there are Administrative templates that offer a very detailed level of user configuration.
