Hi there. I recently upgraded my system from a P2 450 to a Thunderbird 1300. I purchased with the Thunderbird CPU, a Jetway Motherboard, 256 meg RAM, a Pioneer 16x DVD drive, and a compatable case. The cooling fan and power supply fan are the only fans inside the system. I used my Hard Drive, CD-Writer, Sound Card, and Video Card from my other system. Everything was looking fine.. 10 minutes after the system started up the computer halted. Now, when I play a game the system halts (Often switches to a black screen) but music still plays. When reading from either of my CD Drives the computer often halts. Those are the most common crashes, but the computer also crashes while sitting in Windows. Any help will be much appreciated, thanks.

what version of windows, and What the heck is a jetway motherboard, if I were going to buy a TBird, i'd actually get something with a name that I would belive to be stable (Soyo, MSI, Abit, Asus, Etc) , if its not on the Socketa.com list reviewed, I usally dont buy it.

in any case, I need more details on the system, also are you keeping it cool? Karl Blessing aka kb244{fastHACK}

What kind of cooling fan do you have for the CPU? What type of video card are you using? The cheapest thing to do is to pull out all nonessential stuff and run your system for a while. Then as things do not crash, Put in 1 Item back in at a time and let the system run some more. Do this untill it starts to crash. Then you may know what is causing it. May take some time but will save you a lot of heart ache. Aslo I would get a couple more fans going and make sure your CPU cooling fan is rated to cool the T-Bird 1300.

I also have an AMD T-Bird that randomly crashed.

I rectified my problem by fiddling around in the BIOS.. I changed a few settings according to a tweaking guide and it seemed to help.

Also, I would check your video drivers and chipset drivers: Make sure they are updated and correct.

If I remember rightly some of the AMD athlons/Tbirds needed a bios upgrade to stop random lockups/crashes...try upgrading to the latest firmware...

Anytime you move a HDD to another computer without reloading the OS on it, you potentially create issues with hardware incompatability. I would re-install the OS, especially if you are having problems. Nothing runs better than a clean install of your OS.
