I just installed a new 2003 server. I set it up as a DNS server. I want to point all my clients to the new DNS server, promote it to primary and disconnect the old 2000 server. Its working fine so far but I don't want to physically have to touch every client and change the DNS i.p. address. Can you do this in group policy?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Shannan

Are you running DHCP? If so you can do it from there.

No we run static i.p. addresses (192.168.0.XXX).

DHCP will make your life much easier when dns servers change or IP segments change, use Reservations for IPs that need to be static. (servers, printers, switches...)

I agree. Unfortunatly I can't make that call here but I agree.

Thanks,

Shannan

depending on number of workstation you may just want to bite the bullet or maybe check into a login script that can change the dns servers for you.

why not give your new DNS Server a 2nd IP address ?? on the same network card
(lazy shrotcut :) )
