Hi,
We needed a few more phones for our IP412 system, so I went out and bought them. Unfortunately, I have been completely unsuccessful in getting them to work. When I connect the new phone, it displays:

5410D REL:5.00 6/11/07 Please wait...
It stays like that for a few seconds and goes blank, then displays the above info and goes blank. It does this in a continuous loop.

Our phones that do work display:
5410D REL: 2.00 9/21/04 Please wait...
And then the go to the regular screen

We are running 3.1 (65) software on the IP412. Are the newer phones not compatible with this version of software?

I haven't updated the system in a long, long time because it is working. I'm hesitant to jump into it because of the voice mail changes. If I do have to update, do I need to install each incremental update, or can I just jump to the latest? I also have an SCN to another office. If they are on different software, will the SCN break?

Thanks for the help

You must upgrade the control unit to 3.2.69 to use a newer phone.

If it's a 412 you could go to the r4's or r5.

Is there a benefit to R4, R5 or even R6?

i am pretty sure you can get the phones to downgrade. Plug the phone in and make sure manager is open with your TFTP address in manager pointed to your VM server.

Thanks for the info. I had tried that already. We run Whitehorn tftp on that server. Unless I have something really messed up, I don't think it will downgrade. At least, it had not worked so far

It will not downgrade. I had this exact issue in May 09, that's why the 3.2.69 release came out last year. I'm pretty sure there is a doc about it on the support site. I would take it to r5, but the latest 4.2 is good too. One of the many benefits is that the name, ext, time and date are all displayed on the main page among other things.

Thank you all for the help. I'll need to plan some system down-time over a weekend to install the updates and get it all going.
One last question. Is it possible to upgrade from 3.1 to 5? or do I need to do 3.2-4.2-5?

Thank you. Have you gone that route before? Were there issues with VMPro, or will the old configuration transfer over? I'm a bit nervous about having to rebuild it from scratch. it's been years since I did the initial install.

Sorry, forgot the modules, any V2 Dig modules need to go through 3.2.999 but not the main unit.Follow the advice in the docs for backing up and upgrading voicemail and you will be OK, having said that I don't think I've had a VM upgrade require the backup yet :)

We do have a mix of Dig modules, so that's really good to know.

Before you start looking you can't download 3.2.999, it's a folder within the Manager folder, just change the working directory to that and upgrade the modules :)
