Hi,
I am about to build my 4th system but before i do i like to ask computer friends and on forums whether the pc components will work together etc etc.....
So i am asking you for a review of my components, possible *cheap* upgrades to the current system. And any issues you have seen arise from a system like this.
One potential thing i have read somewhere is an issue with asus boards and 2 DDR400 sticks so could people help me to look into this?
The specs follow below with relevant links.

NEC Double Layer 8x DVD Dual R/RW DVD Writer - OEM

AMD Athlon XP2700 333FSB 256Cache Retail Boxed Inc Heatsink & Fan with 3year Warranty
(would it be any good going to the barton 2500 with the 512 cache?)

Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe SKTA NVNorce2ST ATX 8xAGP Giga LAN, SATA, Firewire, 6 channel Audio, USB2 Dual chan. DDR +WiFi slot (up to DDR400)
(when it says up to DDR400 will the ddr400 sticks be ok?)

Crucial 512 DDR400 PC3200 CL=3 Memory Module

XFX GeForce FX5600XT AGP 8x 128MB DDR TV-Out DVI Retail Box

Seagate ST3120026A 120gb 7200rpm 8mb Cache Barracuda 7200.7 Plus - OEM

Plus a couple of cooling fans, a dvd rom, cdrom, etc...
The PSU will be in the case pre built in(i am currently running the case with the PS in it is a 350W one would i be better buying a 400W PS and getting a case fitting it myself?

Any questions ask me but i would like some suggestions on components and the ram, cpu, mobo compatability confirmed

Cheers

Please dont make this a super computer discussion (i was always tempted to do it in threads )

Dan

The 3200 just sold out of retail packs when it says 3days does it mean order in or does it mean 3days till there restocked?

the problem with retail is the damn "stock coolers" that only just do their job.

I'm running an Athlon 2000+ at 1.25GHz (underclocked), which gets up to 54C under full load using a Stock Athlon 2000+ Cooler.

My Athlon 3200+, with the Copper Silent 2L, gets up to 52C under load. Now if I used a Copper Silent 2L on my older CPU, I'd probably get temps under 40C.

I can't - that would mean cleaning my CPU from the paste, and the heatsink, applying more paste, then trying it, then removing it, removeing the paste from both processors and heatsinks, and applying more to both.

I haven't the time. :)

I think it's been said before BUT the stock coolers are fine at stock speeds if fitted correctly. My 2500xp only runs 49c at full load and that is running at 2600xp speeds on a stock h/s & fan. Don't forget earlier chip types at the upper ranges of their speed bands do run hotter

I just had to reformat my hdd, i decided to follow the advice on the ebuyer site to up the fsb, my cpu the current barton 2500 went to a 3200 speed 2.2ghz, however it died after 6 mins or so and i had to reformat as key windows files were courrupted, hence my delving into overclocking has gone badly and will never go again!
Still this new pc will be offically the right speed!
so on the fans any body recommend thermaltake, themalright etc??

In regards to stock AMD coolers - AMD has gone through several versions over the past year & their newest keeps the cpu 8-10 degrees cooler than their previous model. If you buy get a brand spanking new retail cpu you should be getting the newest heatsink / fan (assuming the retailer does not have really old inventory).

Wantstolearncfm, never up the FSB by 66MHz! (I assume you wen't from 333MHz FSB to 400MHz?)

Always do it in ~2MHz increments via the BIOS (or some newer motherboards support overclocking in Windows). Keep going up in 2MHz increments, and testing every time for stability (A CPU-Burn-In Test for 30 mins is good) until your PC becomes unstable, then turn it back down 2-4MHz and leave it there.
