New IP Boards

Could someone please explain what the functions are of the following boards and how I should work out how many I need of each??

IPSI
Medpro
C-Lan

I am not sure exactly correct

IPSI card is communicate with processor control (S8700 server or S8500 server) and control Port network the placed.

Medpro is use in config IP Trunk with clan card.

clan card can use for smdr ,terminal ,report media function and help medpro to setup ip trunk.

It will depend on what you are setting up. The Clans can be used for several things at once (ASA, system printer, firmware upgrades for other programable packs) but some things you use them for (SMDR, and system links like Intuity) they recommend a dedicated CLAN board for.

The IPSI can control 5 port networks per pair of ISPI boards.

I haven't stepped into the MedPro world yet, so I am not going to be much help on them.

The Medpro is used for VOIP. It is responsible for sending and receiving VOIP Audio. It does the "transcoding" and compression of voice from TDM to IP and IP back to TDM.
For instance, IP Phones get dialtone from the Medpro (IP Audio), and VOIP trunks between switches use the Medpro for the audio path.

No Medpro no VOIP.

We just installed a medpro card so we could add IP sets to our system. As I understand it, the medpro controlls IP to TDM transcoding, as well as call setup and teardown of IP phones. You can support up to 64 IP to TDM transcoding with 1 medpro card, assuming you are using a G.711 codec. Any other codec, like G.729, reduces the number of total transcodings to 32, primarily due to addition processing needed on the DSP's for compression.

The medpro works in conjuction with the CLAN card for IP sets.

Hope this helps, and I reserve the right to be a little off on my explanation. I have only been working on the G3 for 2.5 months.
