I just finished installing windows XP professional version on my laptop but now I cannot connect to the internet. It states there is no network connection found. Does anyone have a suggestion? It was working fine before the installation. I did not have it connected during the installation. Would that be an issue?

Thanks in advance

I would say check the obvious first. Check network connections under control panel. What is there? Run an ipconfig. Start-run-cmd. Then type "ipconfig" without the "'s. What does that say?

Right click on My Computer then select Properties. Click the Hardware tab then the Device button. You probably just need to install the NIC driver.

Cheers

Rob,
I see a question mark beside my "ethernet controller" item. I imagine that's the nic. However I cannot install the drive because i do not have the original pc software. And since I cannot get to the internet with that laptop I cannot use the command to update driver. Any thought on how to get the correct driver?

Thanks again

Cecil,

Check network connections under control panel.NOTHING THERE Run an ipconfig. SHOWS WINDOWS IP CONFIGURATION, THAT'S ALL Start-run-cmd. DOES NOT ACCEPT THAT COMMAND Then type "ipconfig" without the "'s. What does that say?

PERHAPS I AM NOT ENTERING THE CORRECT COMMANDS BUT I AM INPUTTING EXACTLY AS YOU SUGGESTED.......THANKS

Ya, you need your Ethernet Controller driver before you can get to the net. What manufacture is your laptop? You can hit their website and search for your model number or serial number to find the driver for it and any other hardware with question marks if you have them. You'd have to download them on another computer then use a USB key or burn them to CD and get them over to your laptop to install.

Cheers
