New Hardware Found

I have a new pc with WinXP Pro/Intel Celeron 2.6 Mhz. I try to add an new printer Canon S600. After reboot Windows keeps complaining about finding new hardware (the printer). After clicking 'Finish' (other options are greyed-out) and new-hardware pop-ups, the printer is working fine. I have tried USB and LPT1 port, but no success. Any help on how to disapear the message "new hardware found" will be greatly appreciated.

if the printer came with a cd or floppy, and you did'nt use them to install the printer (let XP load its own drivers) then uninstall the printer and use the provided media.

or you may need an updated driver.

Hi eyec,

The original CD contains no XP drivers. I have downloaded the drivers from the canon website, but no succes.

Any tips from this point?

I tried to delete the key in the register, but failed with an error (logged on as admin). When I search around the internet there is a lot of messages "found new hardware, but no clear solution. Thanks for your reply.

In regedit, right click on the key, Permissions, and make certain that Administrator and System have full priviliges to the key.

EUREKA. I found the solution. Norton Anti-Virus has blocked the install-procedure. I temporarely shut down NAV and forced the add new hardware. After that the procedure finalized with the message that the installation has completed. After a reboot there is no nagging message about found new hardware. I am so happy. I hope this could help other users. Thanks everybody!
