I had a 16 meg tnt2 card, and i changed it for a 64 meg G-Force 2 MX-200 card. There is no difference in speed in any games.
I did not change any settings in the games , and V sync is turned off. I have the latest drivers for the card.

In counter strike i used to get 30-50 fps (at 1024 X 768), i still get the same now. (the max fps setting is 99, it goes up to that when you look at a wall).
This problem is not just with cs, its with every game.

I have a AMD 650mhz processor, 256mb pc133 ram.

It also says this when i boot up

62-1330-000000-00101111-071595-IRONGATE-IAMD75XO-F

Okay, what kind of computer is this (i.e. Gateway or generic built by a friend or something)?

Is anything else reported at startup time? The manufacturer and model of the motherboard should be silkscreened on the motherboard on the edge of the board.

The same is true for the videocard. Did you buy this videocard, did someone give it to you, or what?

I got this computer from "PC World". This is a strore which sells ready made PC's ( i knew nothing about computers at the time ).
I got the g force 2 from a computer fair. It was brand new in the box with drivers and a manual. The card was in an anti static bag inside the box.
I will have to turn the computer off now to look at my motherboard.

Well after removing all the components i found some more writing.

"Micro-Star FC model ms 6191"

"MS6191 VER: 1"

"N 1996"

"0600512594" - This is the serial number

while i was looking for the make of my board i cut my finger but i didnt notice till 10 mins later. (when i saw that my PCI modem was totally red!), but it still works now :)

There was no other info at startup.

Okay, so you have a model 6191 board manufactured by Microstar with an AMD 750 chipset that supports slot A AMD processors. This board was made for the Fujitsu-Siemens joint venture into computing.

Go to and download the AMD Driver Pack, Version 1.30. Also download any other drivers that pertain to your OS, especially those related to AGP.

If you're running Win2K be sure to also download the Win2000 Applications patch. It isn't listed on that page but there is a link to it on the right-side of the page.

To be honest, I've never had any luck with components at fairs. The vendors are usually there to dump their defective/returned parts off on people that won't be able to find them again. I have heard of some folks that have had good luck with parts from fairs. Just keep in mind that the card you have may be defective.

As a last thought, after doing all of the above and rebooting when you're done, open the video drivers and go into the overclocking section and just see what speed your card's processor and memory are running at.

I installed all the updates, but it did not make my graphics card perform better.

My friend bought the same card from a computer fair and he had no trouble (but as you said u didnt have any luck so maybe im the same)

The core clock frequency is 175mhz
The memory clock frequency is 143mhz

If these values are too low is it safe to increase them? If so can you tell me the optimum values.
Also if this value is too low does this mean that my card is defective?

Did you check by using Half-Life or a 3D testing app?

Those values are fine. You will find that those values will vary widely depending upon which vendor a card is from. Some vendors using aggressive number (higher) while others use safer numbers.

Do you have anti-alias turned off?

What refresh rate do you have your adapter set at? It should be at least 75 and preferably 85 if your monitor can handle it.

Reset your Counter-Life resolution to 1024x768.

Do you know what speed processor and how much RAM your friend has in his system?

Anti antialiasing is set to off. 2x is slow and 4x is unplayable.
Addapter refresh rate is already set to 85hz.
Counter strike is set at 1024x768

My friend has a 800mhz AMD Athalon and 192 meg pc133 ram.

I have checked by using half life and a 3d testing app. Both tests show no improvement in performance.

I took the card round to my friends and it worked fine on his computer.

Are you sure that you have v-sync turned off?

You definitely have a driver conflict somewhere.

Yes definately sure - its set to "always off" - I use 16 bit colour depth for textures.
