New Domain Name

We are currently thinking about reformatting our server and changing the domain name. We are face with the problem with when all the computers are set up with the new domain name; a new user will be added to that workstation. With this features like, desktop icons, my documents files, and email settings, will not be transferred over to the new 'user'.

I was wondering if there is anyway to transfer the settings etc, as I do not want to go round each computer and manually change the settings!

What operating system are you using on the clients?

You will need to manually visit each machine to join it to your new domain. Does the exchange server reside on this server? How many severs do you have?

Are you refering to roaming profiles or local profiles?

Sorry, I assumed you used exchange when you wrote about email. How is email configured curently?

If your XP clients,

1.You can use USMT (user state transfer), and transfer profile states to a server. Then put them back after.

2. Or if you are roaming profiles, no worries.

3. Or after your users log onto the new domain, and a new profile is created for them locally, you can start the clients up in safe mode, go into documents and settings and copy all the users directory's from joe.OLDDOMAIN to joe.NEWDOMAIN. Be sure to view all system files first, so that you get them all. Outlook will relocate data files when you first start it up.
