New Computer S/U NO SIGNAL...

Hi All,

I'm trying to setup my computer for the first time, but I'm getting a "NO SIGNAL" showing up on my monitor.


I've set up my motherboard (ECS - p4vxasd2+) according to the directions.
Memory (256 mb sdram), cpu (1.7 celeron), hard drive, cd-rom and graphics card (gigabyte 32 mb model ag32s).
I know the cpu & m/b are compatable because I bought them at a local computer store that had the combination on display and working.

The problem is, when the computer is turned on (fans come on ok) and the monitor is hooked up, I'm getting a "No Signal" displayed on the monitor.

What could be wrong? The video card is fully seated in the AGP slot and the cord is fully seated and screwed into the connector on the video card.

Please advise.

What sort of monitor is it? Does it have a choice of analogue or digital connections? Analogue is the traditional 15 pin d connector. I've had problems in the past with TFT Flat Screens auto switching from the analogue port to the digital one & therefore losing the signal.

Also, just because you can hear the fans doesn't mean the machine is definitely running. Can you hear the hard drive as well? Do you get any beep codes? Memory faults (including not seated) will cause beeps, but I'm not sure a badly seated CPU or video card will, just to make things more interesting!

If your monitor isn't the issue, go back to basics & make sure everything is well seated. I know you probably have, but I've lost count of the times I've found the CPU will go that extra click!

the monitor is Analogue (15 pin d connector). No audible noise from the hard drive, no beep codes.

I'll have to check the cpu i guess.

after dbl checking vid card & monitor on another working box...i checked the cpu..there was a bent pin!

sucks...now i've got to get another.

Oh bad luck. Like I say, I've often built PCs & had the exact same problem; no beeps, but no start always comes down to video card or CPU needing that extra push (especially the old slot style connectors). Luckily, never had to deal with a bent pin. Is it worth attempting to very carefully unbend it? Or is it bent right over at the base?

Always insist on the CPU fitting so well that it DROPS into the connection with little or no pressure, sitting flush all the way.
Seldom, if ever, do they do it, and you have to carefully sight down the pins and realign them (carefully).
But, mistakes are lessons, albeit hard ones!
We all make them...once.

the bent pin didn't come from forcing the cpu...it actually felt like it went into the socket very smoothly, which is why i couldn't believe it was a bent pin.
the oem packaging it came in was rediculous at best...that's probably where i bent it (trying to extract it)...if it truely was me. i didn't fully inspect the oem package, so it could have happened before i bought it.

anyway, i replaced it and everything went great from there!
