A zone allows you to logically subdivide your farm to optimise the way data is written to the IMA store. When zones are defined a bridgehead server effectively provides all of the updates for the zone instead of each individual Metaframe server.
It is used to optimise IMA traffic across slow links.
You can call it what you like (defaults to ip network) however something meangingfull is always nice.
