Is there a generic way to tranfer pictures from a compact digital camera into my computer files?
Kodak furnishes their EasyShare(C) software V5.2.00 downloaded from their site, specifically designated for win98 to connect to my new C653 Kodak camera. However Kodak FAQs are unhelpful. Besides, although the we-try-to-respond-within-24-hours Kodak Digital Support auto acknowledged immediately, then it never really answered. A Kodak phone-tech in Manila said he could only troubleshoot V6.0 and higher, and that we might delete the camera photos, or tear up my computer. He instructed, "You will have to go to our site." Endless loop --Not!
Its like a nice bottle of wine with no corkscrew. Newegg will restock it for a 15% fee, but sooner would I keep the dandy little jewel. After fondling it so long. Moreover how might one go about shopping among only cameras which are win98SE [backwardly]compatible, next time?

Well for one, you might think about upgrading in the future. Very few people are supporting windows 98 anymore as its so old. If you have software and drivers installed, you might try going to my computer and finding the drive letter which the camera is listed under and opening it like a cd and then just dragging and dropping the photos.

What is the problem with the software? It should let you copy the pictures onto your hard drive?

As electronicsfreak said, it might have gotten a drive letter and you can use that to get the files.

But we need a but more information about was is going on, wrong to actually be more helpful than that.

Nowadays its difficult to find a software that supports win98, but in your case I suggest buying a card reader, so instead of using the software to transfer your pictures to your pc, you can easily use one of those units to do the job for you and its as easy as the softwares that come with the cameras.
Before buying it make sure it supports the win98, doesnt matter whether its for usb 1,1 or 2.

No new icon ever appeared in control panel, Vacunita.
If buttons don't show on an abacus, they cannot be dragged and dropped. Obsolesence being problematic, Kodak's minimums specified this computer big aplenty. Photag-forum page upon short-fat-slidebar page of grief made my weeks' misery seem slight compared to some mostly 2000 & XP users' headaches with this Kodak software.
My misadventures began: "This version of Kodak EasyShare software is not supported on your operating system. For more information, please visit our link..." (to run-around hell.) Only a readme file downloads by selecting the Kodak Connection Software stand-alone option, for instance. They finally answered my first tech-query today. So I expct another, as completely off subject as a US Legislator's office reply, in four days.

Cardreader seems elegant solution! Bloatware is avoided; capability obtained.
Who knows of good, abacus compatible [win98SE] 6in1s?

This little digital Brownie really is plastic, and burns batteries like an old Rayovac flashlight, but I still like it. Just not Kodak.

As soon as 512 bus becomes mainstream, I aim to assemble me a 128 wide, with a however-many core CPU.

Till I am next so perplexed. I will lurk on still to learn from all. Thank you.

1. What's your camera Model? Maybe we can find drivers for it. That the Easy Share software can then use to connect to your camera.

2. This Reader seems to support Win98.

I'm currently on a XP machine, but I've installed the EasyShare V 5.2 on it.


1) You shouldn't be in the Control Panel - this area is mostly for system wide changes to the operations of devices and critical software. EasyShare is not critical; think of it as a Third Party Add-On...in that it works with the devices and drivers already registered with the system (such as USB ports and TWAIN drivers)


2) You should use START > PROGRAMS > KODAK > KODAK EASYSHARE > KODAK EASYSHARE SOFTWARE to start and access the program. (On my XP, a desktop icon was installed by default.)


3) You should also take a look at the HELP menu of the software once you start it ...

Transfer pictures/videos?

This procedure describes transferring pictures/videos from a USB-connected device, such as a digital camera, the Kodak EasyShare picture viewer, a camera or printer dock, and a card reader. For information on using a wireless connection, click here.

1. Make sure EasyShare software is running. When the Kodak EasyShare icon is in the system tray, in the lower-right corner of the desktop, the software is running. For information on starting EasyShare software, click here.

2. Connect and turn on the device.

3. In the Transfer window, click Transfer All.

If one or more pictures on the device are already in your collection, EasyShare software identifies the pictures and does not transfer them again. Pictures that are not in your collection are transferred to your hard disk as follows.

* By default, pictures are saved in an album in EasyShare software and in a folder on your hard disk using the transfer date.

* If you create an album or select an existing one, the pictures are saved in that album in EasyShare software and on your hard disk in a folder that matches the album name.

I have a kodak easy share junk box of a digital camera,
which unfortunatly i need for 25% of my photography projects.
Problem is... i HATE kodak easy share.
I cant get the connection software without the easy share program.
Does anyone know another type of connection software i could use with windows 2000 pro?
someone please help me...

Does your camera have a memory card that can be removed?
If so you can use any garden variety card reader and you don't need the kodak easy share software.
