Without having changed any configurations whatsoever, my internet connection simply stopped working and it hasn't worked ever since. (few weeks)

My laptop is connected to a small LAN, running windows 98 with cable internet shared though a Cable/DSL Router.
Another machine is also connected with windows 98 and has the same problem. All other computers on the network have windows 2000 professional.

Both windows 98 machines have complete access to shared resources, have no problems communicating to eachother (pinging) however the internet simply ceased to function though I verified all configurations dosens of times..

Internet explorer returns the following errors:
"Cannot find Server or DNS Error" and
"Internet explorer could not open search page."

Any ideas on how I can fix this situation or what may be causing it?

Thanks.

Can ANY of the computer get through the router to the internet? It may be the router that has the problem.

Check the problem PC's for a valid IP address. If they are not getting an IP address from the router, they will not be in the proper subnet and wont be able to hit the Internet. The router hands out both DHCP addressing and DNS server IP address. If the two are not getting the required addressing they will not see the Internet.Check if you do have the router setup to allocate IP addresses(DHCP) make sure that you have a big enough pool(scope) of addresses for all the clients.

Hi,
Actually, currently connected to the network are 3 Computers using windows 2000 professional, and the internet works properly for those, there are 2 machines using windows 98, 1 of which is the problem computer. My laptop is also connected to the same network, and it stopped accessing the internet as well, 2 days ago, after having worked properly for weeks.
The router we have is a simple Cable/DSL router, which is not configurable like a true router is..
All computers can communicate via the Shared folders/as well as Pinging functions from all machines to all others. There must be some form of configuration or option that I'm missing.
I have also connected my Laptop directly into the cable modem, and I still did not have access to the Internet.
Something's definately wrong with the configuration..

Hope this clears up my situation...
