I have 3 computers networked through HUB. Server is running WinME with Internet connection sharing using 2 NICs. The problem is that one of the other two computers can only browse a VERY limited number of sites (like ebay, and UW site, and not much more). The third computer can't browse at all but can use AIM and telnet for email. How come all three computers can't browse on the web??

Also, is there any functionality that i would gain from using a router instead of a HUB??

i hope i posted this in the right place, because i couldn't find a networking area.

You will get a huge amount of better performance by using a router. For only 3 machines, they are relatively inexpensive. I would suggest the Linksys router part # BEFSR41.

Hope this helps...

NB: The router would replace the functionality of your "server" & it's 2 NICs. You'd still need a hub for networking your PCs to the router.

You should also consider a firewall - either combined with the router, or as a separate product.
One by one, the penguins steal my sanity. X-)

The Linksys router that I suggested above has a 4 port switch built in and also a firewall.

If you are using Cable or DSL I would recommend the Cable/DSL router, switch and firewall.

Netgear RP114 4-port
10/100 switch DSL/Cable Gateway

This would solve your problem in a flash for a very reasonable price.
Hope this Helps

So you're saying that i incorporate a router into my network then all computers will be able to surf the web?

Ok, just got the Linksys BEFSR41 and it works great, all the computers can surf the web now - thanks JCurry15.

Now here is another problem i want to fix. I play a game called Starcraft and I would like all 3 computers to be able to play in the SAME game. As of now, all computers can log onto Battle.net (the server) and all can play fine in DIFFERENT games. The problem arises when we try to play in the SAME online game. It gets so laggy that is basically unplayable. I'm thinking that its because all the computers need separate IP Addresses? if i'm right how can i go about doing this without paying $5 extra per month (to the cable modem service providers).

hmmmm...... You can try to upgrade the firmware for the router and see if that helps.... I know it did with CounterStrike, so it might do the same with StarCraft. You can upgrade the firmware from the router's setup page.
