Can anyone help us configure FC tape drives on our Solaris 8 and 9 servers? We are running Networker version 7.3
We cannot see the device paths of the drives using "inquire". We have run lus_add_fp_devs, the drives show up but not the paths. Persistent bindings are OK. The drives are not shown in Networker management console either.

We have been told by our supplier that it is a Solaris problem. We have had a look at the Networker admin guide but we are just trying things to see if they will work. We are going on the admin training course in September, but we would like the software operational before then.

Can anyone help us?
Thanks SuperJan

There is no way out - BEFORE you can see the drives with
NetWorker's inquire command, they must exist as device files /dev/rmt/....

So, it really points to an OS/driver related problem.

Thanks 605.

Have posted a query on the Solaris forum to see if anyone can assist.

Hi bombcan

I have just installed another FC tape library, a Scalar i500. The two FC tape drives are zoned in the fabric and I created a zone for the server so it could see the drives. This has worked perfectly and Solaris has assigned the device paths /dev/rmt/2cbn and 3cbn to the drives.

This means Solaris is OK, there must be some config problem with the CDL300. The CDL300 has 8 virtual drives, 4 assigned to unix. I will pass it back to EMC and hopefully find a solution.
Thanks for your help
